Follow the Bond Lifestyle EYES ONLY playlist on Spotify or YouTube!

This week, I have added SPECTRE from Radiohead to the list. This song was a contender for the official SPECTRE theme song, but Writing’s On The Wall by Sam Smith was used. Read more about the song in this article on Slash Film.

Q&A

For this newsletter, we’re bringing Caleb Daniels into the MI6 interrogation room. He’s better known online as CommandoBond and an expert in Bond’s firearms.

Q. Which three Bond clothes or accessories do you wear the most?
A. Walther PPK, Sunspel Riviera, and the Zulu Alpha Straps Connery NATO. Two of the three are with me daily, while the polo in a couple of colorways is a constant companion for my smart-casual attire.

Q. If you could keep only 1 item of your Bond collection, what would it be?
A. Without a doubt, it would be my 2012 production Walther PPK in .380. It was my first handgun, the one I learned on and carry daily, and has most recently been featured as the hero gun in No Time to Die. I've designed and built holsters inspired by Bond for it, and carried it across the country, it's the daily companion that intrinsically connects me to Bond while serving a utilitarian purpose as well.

Q. What is your most popular post/video?
A. One of the most popular posts from the last year has been this flat-lay I put together celebrating Brosnan's tenure as 007. The picture itself has a lot of value to me, I took it at the request of Walther Arms, who reached out to me for a Bond-inspired image for their Final Edition of the P99, the sidearm that debuted in Tomorrow Never Dies. I was tasked with crafting a photographic moment that would quietly invoke Bond, a photo that would be etched into the challenge coin issued with every Final Edition P99, a nod to 007 and his impact on the brand and the legacy of this icon. You can find this image and the coin with every Final Edition P99, and that means the world to me.

Q. Which Bond location do you still want to visit?
A. Most of them! I'm US-based, and have spent most of my life dreaming of the stunning locales brought to life in the Bond universe, both on the screen and on the page. Thus far, Jamaica (but not GoldenEye tragically!) has been my first major exodus. Eager to resume such travels in the future, and I'd love to see those adventures take me to the European locales next!

Q. If you could meet any Bond actor (even if they’re no longer with us), who would that be and why?
A. Certainly Sean Connery. I'm sure this is the most common gut-check answer to be received to this question, but it’s Connery and the way he carried himself that set me up as a lifelong fan of the franchise. So many of the things he said on screen, and off screen to describe his experiences, are pieces of my daily life. My favorite quote of his defines his approach to the role, and articulates the quiet confidence that he embodied so well - confidence that was earned, respected and felt. "I never had to work so hard to make everything look so easy." It's this mentality that I'd love to share a few cocktails and discuss, in addition to just thanking the man for his work.

Q. Which Bond-related song do you want to add to the Bond Lifestyle Playlist on Spotify / YouTube?
A. Anthony Horowitz features The Shadows in his final Bond novel, With a Mind to Kill, specifically Wonderful Land. It's a great song, and all of their instrumental discography fits very well with the nostalgic 1960s Bond feeling!

Q. Rolex or Omega?
A. This is the question I helped answer with @watchesofespionage recently, in a 2 part blog series on his website discussing the relationship between Bond & Rolex, vs Bond & Omega. For the modern Bond, I really would prefer Omega (or Tudor for that matter, the shield that protects the Crown, and the brilliant Special Forces tie this brand has), but it's hard to argue that the Rolex doesn't fit the literary/early Bond. In short, only a Sith deals in absolutes! Here's that article too for a better explanation/history.
