Q&A

For this newsletter, we’re bringing Matt Spaiser into the interrogation room. Matt runs the fantastic website Bond Suits with incredibly detailed articles about Bond’s outfits. He also co-authored the book From Tailors With Love. And check out Matt’s Instagram page.

Q. Which three Bond clothes or accessories do you wear the most?
A. The Crockett & Jones Tetbury chukka boots from Skyfall are my most-worn Bond clothing item, but I got mine in dark brown instead of black. I wear them so much because they dress up and down equally well. Though it's not one particular item, I frequently wear any one of my many cocktail cuff shirts from Frank Foster, who made shirts for most of the first 14 Bond films. In warmer weather, I frequently wear the navy Sunspel Riviera polo.

Q. If you could keep only 1 item of your Bond collection, what would it be?
A. My bespoke Anthony Sinclair midnight blue dinner suit is the most important item in my collection. It's my version of the Dr. No dinner suit, which I modified with peaked lapels. It was made for my wedding, which gives it an extra special meaning beyond Bond. It's also special because it was made in collaboration with my dear friend David Mason, and it was cut by the legendary cutter Henry Rose, who cut one of Roger Moore's suits for A View to a Kill.

Q. What is your most popular post/video?
A. My most popular post is A Guide to James Bond’s Sunglasses and Eyeglasses, which I couldn't have done without referencing the research of Bond Lifestyle.

Q. Which Bond location do you still want to visit?
A. I would love to visit the Vienna locations in The Living Daylights, which is one of my favourite Bond films. I particularly want to see a concert or opera at one of the halls where Bond attended a performance.

Q. If you could meet any Bond actor (even if they’re no longer with us), who would that be and why?
A. I would love to have properly met Roger Moore. I had the amazing experience of meeting him at a book signing, but I wasn't permitted to say much to him. He was such a charming, witty and amusing person, and I would have loved to have been able to converse with him to learn more about his sense of style.

Q. Which Bond-related song do you want to add to the Bond Lifestyle Playlist on Spotify / YouTube?
A. "The James Bond Suite" from John Barry's 1972 album The Concert John Barry has incredible instrumental arrangements of all the Bond themes up to that year. It also introduces the symphonic arrangement of the James Bond Theme that Barry would later use in his five Moore and Dalton Bond films.

Q. Rolex or Omega?
A. I hate to choose, but being a classic Bond fan I have to go with Rolex.
