For this newsletter, we’re speaking to Bond collector Chris Distin. Author, collector and exhibitor of original James Bond props, costumes and production items. Some of his collection can be seen in the German Spy Museum in Berlin and in travelling exhibitions around Germany and Europe.

Distin also helped design the limited edition Duesenberg 007 guitar, together with Bond Composer David Arnold, the first of which was played by David Arnold and Hans Zimmer at the 60 Years James Bond Sound of 007 concert at the Royal Albert Hall in 2022 and then afterwards auctioned by Christie’s.

Q. Which three Bond clothes or accessories do you wear the most?
A. I'm predominantly a prop collector, so I don't consciously buy things just because Bond wore or used them but I do wear a Dinner Suit a lot at my Exhibitions and I love the Hamilton/Pulsar P2 style watch that I bought a while back.

Q. If you could keep only 1 item of your Bond collection, what would it be?
A. I have dozens of props and they all have their story, the most impressive for me being the Original Hang Glider used in Live and Let Die, but the red telephone from M's (Bernard Lee) table is special as it was my first "major" prop I ever bought, over 20 years ago.

Q. What is your most popular post/video?
A. The interview I did with 007 Logo creator Joe Caroff, who is still alive and now 102 years old! It was such an honour to hear the story of the logo creation from the man himself.

Q. Which Bond location do you still want to visit?
A. I'd love to go to Thailand, mainly because I've just finished my book, JAMES BOND - Golden Gun on Location, and Thailand features so predominantly in it.

Q. If you could meet any Bond actor (even if they’re no longer with us), who would that be and why?
A. Probably Sean Connery, just because he was the first Bond and he's probably got loads of juicy stories to tell ;-)

Q. Which Bond-related song do you want to add to the Bond Lifestyle Playlist on Spotify / YouTube?
A. Ivy Quainoo “Do You Like What You See”. Ivy was the winner of The Voice of Germany and they gave her a very Bond-esque winners song which made the top of the charts here and would have made a great Bond title song in my opinion.

Q. Rolex or Omega?
A. Hmm.. that's a hard one... Rolex is the classic, obviously.. but I absolutely love the No Time To Die Seamaster… so it's Omega for me.
